On Wednesday morning the children came into class and asked the question. “Why is it getting so dark?” So, that afternoon in Science, we discussed how the sun creates a day and a night. The children were all so fascinated! We then decided to use a football as the earth and a torch as the sun to show which part of the earth would be day and which part would be night.

After discussing day and night, the children starting to ask “so how are shadows made?” To explore this question, we created puppets using the ‘sun’ to create a shadow. Chestnut quickly realised that the further away the sun was, the bigger the shadow and the closer the sun was to an object, the smaller the shadow!
