In science, Year 5 have been exploring different solids, liquids and gasses. We have experimented, mixing different reactants together to create a range of solutions. Some processes were reversible such as mixing flour and water – as we found out that by filtering the solution, we could get the original reactants back. Other processes were irreversible such as: frying an egg.

When we mixed cornflour and water together, we learnt that the new solution was both a solid and liquid, depending on how much energy we gave the solution (by squeezing it together). If we applied lots of pressure, the solution turned into a solid; however when we reduced the amount of the pressure, the solution turned into a liquid. This is known as Non-Newtonian fluid!
