Dear Parents, Carers and the community of Winlaton,

Caroline TetleyWelcome to Winlaton West Lane Community Primary School where we believe we have something very special and all staff, children, parents and Governors strive to REACH FOR THE STARS!

I am very proud to be the Headteacher of a school with such awe-inspiring children, dedicated staff and supportive parents and carers.

Staff and Governors helped to create our vision statement for our wonderful school which is based on a happy, inclusive school which exudes an ethos of opportunity for all -children, staff, Governors, Parents and the wider community of Winlaton. One that enables our children to take responsibility and be the workforce of the future.

Winlaton WLCP endeavours to be a forward-thinking school which is experiencing a time of change and rapid improvement. High expectations of teaching and learning, behaviour and team work are the norm here. We want to be outstanding in all areas of school life.

At Winlaton WLCP you will find a welcoming and vibrant environment, with all involved taking responsibility for themselves and other people. We work hard to achieve our best in everything we do. REACHING FOR THE STARS!

Year 5 investigate something rather smelly – Viking Poo!

It’s a messy job but someone’s got to do it!
This week, we had a very interesting delivery from an archaeologist -some Viking poo! We were all rather intrigued as to why we would be looking at this interesting specimen. In order to see what they ate, we had to get our hands dirty, and research the poo to see what we could find.

Year 1 chicks hatch!

Year 1 have been VERY excited this week, as we had a delivery of some VERY special chicken eggs – they arrived on Monday, started to wobble on Tuesday, one started to hatch on Wednesday and then when we came into school on Thursday morning 7 had hatched!

Year 5 become ‘law makers!’

This week we had a visit from Gillian – from ‘Out-Reach Within Parliament’. We took part in workshops based around democracy, making laws and campaigning for change.

Year 5 become anglo-saxon designers!

In year 5 we have had great fun designing and making Anglo Saxon brooches! After researching different patterns, we designed our own brooch – thinking carefully about the materials we could use to make our brooches look authentic. We think our finished products look fantastic!

West Lane ‘draw’ against English Martyrs!

At last night’s football match against The English Martyr’s, our team played extremely well together and we drew 1-1!
Fantastic team spirit and great sportsmanship was shown by all – well done to Adam, Mckenzie, Tre, Ellie, Holly, Spencer, Sam and Harvey!

Year 1 test their boats and sail away with Columbus!

Before half term, Year 1 started learning about Christopher Columbus – his 3 ships (The Pinta, The Nina and The Santa Maria). Since then, we have investigated materials (and their properties) further and have made our own boats. We tested them and…..every single one of them floated!

Reception celebrate Chinese New Year!

Reception have loved learning all about Chinese New Year this half-term. They have looked at the customs and traditions that are carried out during this festival – their favorite part being learning about the year in which they were born.
