Dear Parents, Carers and the community of Winlaton,

Caroline TetleyWelcome to Winlaton West Lane Community Primary School where we believe we have something very special and all staff, children, parents and Governors strive to REACH FOR THE STARS!

I am very proud to be the Headteacher of a school with such awe-inspiring children, dedicated staff and supportive parents and carers.

Staff and Governors helped to create our vision statement for our wonderful school which is based on a happy, inclusive school which exudes an ethos of opportunity for all -children, staff, Governors, Parents and the wider community of Winlaton. One that enables our children to take responsibility and be the workforce of the future.

Winlaton WLCP endeavours to be a forward-thinking school which is experiencing a time of change and rapid improvement. High expectations of teaching and learning, behaviour and team work are the norm here. We want to be outstanding in all areas of school life.

At Winlaton WLCP you will find a welcoming and vibrant environment, with all involved taking responsibility for themselves and other people. We work hard to achieve our best in everything we do. REACHING FOR THE STARS!

Martin Luther King Day and UNCRC ‘Rights Respecting’ assembly!

This week, Mrs Tetley led us in a ‘Rights Respecting’ assembly to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King – who fought for the rights of African Americans in the 1960’s. This assembly focused upon the United Nations Convention on the Rights of The Child: Article 1 (Everyone under the age of 18 has all the rights in the Convention) and Article 2 (The Convention on the Rights of the Child applies to everyone without exception and Governments should take all measures to ensure that children are protected against all forms of discrimination.)

Year 1 ‘hunt’ for plants!

On Wednesday this week, we went on a plant hunt to discover what is growing around our school. Every time we found a tree, bush or flower we took turns to take photos on the ipad. We then went back to the classroom to conduct a scientific observation – using our own planted seeds.

Year 6 enjoy some ‘snowy maths!’

When the snow fell on Thursday, Year 6 made use of the free resource – braving the cold and using the snow to our advantage!

Nursery fly high!

This week in Nursery, we have been learning all about ‘Transport’. The children were really interested in making paper aeroplanes and loved decorating their own aeroplane – flying these outside to see whose could go the furthest!

Reception go down to the woods!

We have been very busy this week in Reception! We went on our first trip to Chopwell Woods (which was brilliant!), we learnt some new sounds in our phonics and we have been developing our number work in maths!

Year 1 Holly explore measuring…

This week in Year 1, we have had fun measuring – using tape measures and rulers to measure the height of objects and people! We then used our maths skills to record the different heights in centimetres (cm).
