Dear Parents, Carers and the community of Winlaton,

Welcome to Winlaton West Lane Community Primary School where we believe we have something very special and all staff, children, parents and Governors strive to REACH FOR THE STARS! I am very proud to be the Headteacher of a school with such awe-inspiring children, dedicated staff and supportive parents and carers.

Staff and Governors helped to create our vision statement for our wonderful school which is based on a happy, inclusive school which exudes an ethos of opportunity for all: children, staff, Governors, Parents and the wider community of Winlaton. It is an ethos that enables our children to take responsibility and become a brilliant workforce of the future.

Winlaton West Lane Community Primary endeavours to be a forward-thinking school with high expectations of teaching and learning, behaviour and team work. We aspire to be outstanding in all areas of school life.

At Winlaton West Lane, you will find a welcoming and vibrant environment, with all involved taking responsibility for themselves and other people. We work hard to achieve our best in everything we do and always REACH FOR THE STARS!

West Lane brochure 2018-19

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.”

Sports Day fun at West lane!

This week, we enjoyed some amazing sports days / mini sports days at West Lane! Despite the inclement weather – with support from young sports leaders from Thorp Academy and Gateshead School Sports Partenrship – Key Stage 2 pupils enjoyed participating in a variety of team work, competitive and problem solving activities on our fabulous school playing field and it was great to see the parents and teachers getting involved too! Check out our video of our sprinting teachers! Key Stage 1 pupils then enjoyed a mini-sports day on Thursday…

Nursery play and stay!

Our nursery new starters had a great time this week, choosing areas to play inside and outside with their parents at our ‘play and stay’ session! We look forward to seeing you all in September!

Year 1 ‘transition’ to Year 2!

Year 1 (soon to be Year 2) had great fun ‘transitioning’ to their new class this week! We read the book ‘Michael’ – a lovely story about a boy who makes his own rocket! We then made our own rockets using plastic bottles and had great fun testing them out – to see whose rocket design was the fastest!

Year 4 reason and record data ‘smartly!’

During our transition time this week in maths, Year 4 (soon to be Year 5) were asked by Mr Smart (owner of ‘Smarties’ company) to gather information and record data about the rarest of the Smarties colour.

Year 4 ‘transition’ to an ALIEN Year 5!

As we began moving to Year Five, Year 4 discovered that something else had moved to! After investigating and compiling the evidence, we discovered that an alien (named Beegu) had crash-landed on our field – leaving vital clues to help us uncover the truth!

SCHOOL NEWS

Year 2 use ICT to explore DATA!

In our ICT lessons with Miss Westgarth, Year 2 classes have been learning about different ways in which DATA (information) can be presented – looking at how to interpret bar graphs, tally charts and pictograms. In the next few weeks we will be using our school IPADS and laptops to try and create our own bar graphs using Microsoft Excel!
