Welcome to Year 1!
Miss Jackson and Ms Greaves are our Year 1 teachers, and they are supported by Miss Sowerby. Miss Jackson teaches Year 1 Holly and Ms Greaves teaches Year 1 Chestnut.

This week, Mrs Tetley led us in a ‘Rights Respecting’ assembly to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King – who fought for the rights of African Americans in the 1960’s. This assembly focused upon the United Nations Convention on the Rights of The Child: Article 1 (Everyone under the age of 18 has all the rights in the Convention) and Article 2 (The Convention on the Rights of the Child applies to everyone without exception and Governments should take all measures to ensure that children are protected against all forms of discrimination.)read more
On Wednesday this week, we went on a plant hunt to discover what is growing around our school. Every time we found a tree, bush or flower we took turns to take photos on the ipad. We then went back to the classroom to conduct a scientific observation – using our own planted seeds.read more
This week in Year 1, we have had fun measuring – using tape measures and rulers to measure the height of objects and people! We then used our maths skills to record the different heights in centimetres (cm).read more
This week, as part of our whole school learning about the United Nations Convention of The Rights of The Child, Mrs Tetley led us in a ‘Rights Respecting’ assembly focussing upon articles 28 and 31 from The Convention:read more

On Wednesday, in science, we explored the weather as we noticed it had been raining a lot lately. The children wanted to find out precisely how much rain was falling, so we searched on BBC and found instructions for how to make a rain gauge.read more
