Mrs Traynor and Miss Sergison are our Year 2 teachers, and they are supported by Miss Westgarth and Mrs Herworth. Mrs Traynor teaches Year 2 Elder and Miss Sergison teaches Year 2 Poplar.

During the past couple of weeks at after school Art club, the children have been making Valentines hearts using clay. They finished painting and decorating them this week – we hope you agree that they all look fantastic!read more

This has been a proud week for our school – as we have gained the UNICEF (silver level) Rights Respecting Schools Award! We are pleased to announce that we are now an official UNICEF Rights Aware School!read more
This week, Mrs Tetley led us in a ‘Rights Respecting’ assembly to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King – who fought for the rights of African Americans in the 1960’s. This assembly focused upon the United Nations Convention on the Rights of The Child: Article 1 (Everyone under the age of 18 has all the rights in the Convention) and Article 2 (The Convention on the Rights of the Child applies to everyone without exception and Governments should take all measures to ensure that children are protected against all forms of discrimination.)read more

This week, as part of our topic (where we are learning about The Great Fire of London), Year 2 went on a fabulous, ‘smoking hot!’ trip to St Mary’s heritage Centre, Gateshead and the Newcastle / Gateshead Quayside. Did you know there was also a ‘Great Fire of Gateshead’ in Queen Victoria’s time?!read more
Wow! What a busy last week of term Year 2 have had! We have had SO much fun at our Xmas party, playing Xmas party games, cutting and painting some salt dough Xmas tree decorations, designing our Xmas cards and having our ‘rock / pop star’ themed photographs taken for our Xmas calendars! On Monday this week, Mrs Nugent led KS1 and KS2 in two ‘Rights Respecting School’ assemblies – where the theme of ‘difference’ was considered to recognise the importance of celebrating the wonderful diversity within our school, families and community.read more

This week in Year 2, we have been developing our VIPERS reading skills, focusing on inference. We have been learning how to use different ‘clues’ found in the pictures and words / text of books we read, to ‘work out’ what a character might be feeling, alongside using a drama technique called ‘freeze framing’ to demonstrate how facial expressions / body language can communicate negative / positive emotions to a reader (e.g. joy, boredom, tiredness, anger etc).read more
